CD Security

CUSTOMER: Hello, Ubersoft? The other day I bought your game, “Age of Umpires II,” and every time I try to load the game, it tells me to put the CD in the CD-ROM drive, then crashes to my desktop.

ALEX: Hmmm. It sounds like you’re experiencing an incompatibility with our CD-checking software.

ALEX: You see, because software piracy is a plague against our industry, we have been forced to resort to a special piece of software that intermittently checks to make sure a legally purchased CD is in your CD-ROM Drive while you’re playing the game. Unfortunately, this security software is compatible with many models of CD-ROM drives, as well as many more CD-Rewritable and DVD drives. Sometimes due to this incompatibility, the game will refuse to run.

CUSTOMER: So you’re telling me that I can’t run my legally purchased game because your security software makes it impossible for me to run my legally purchased game?

ALEX: Yes, well… when you put it THAT way, you make it sound like a BAD thing.
