CUSTOMER: So you know that these companies are selling Nifty Doorways preloads without including the OS CDs, and it doesn’t bother you at all?

ALEX: Not a bit. It’s part of a new business strategy that caters to our public retail vendors.

ALEX: They were complaining that it was too expensive to preload our Operating system, and wanted a way to save some money… so we offered them the option of buying “diskless” licenses — versions of the OS that are not shipped on any physical media. Because we don’t have to print CDs for those licenses, the vendor winds up paying less.

CUSTOMER: But I wind up paying MORE.

ALEX: Well, we had to recoup our losses from somewhere.
