Oh No, Not Again - It Might Be Time to Migrate to Drupal 8

Submitted by C B Wright on

Short version: after finally updating all my Linux machines to the latest version of Ubuntu/KDE, I can no longer run my Drupal 7 test environments. This means I can no longer test any changes to Eviscerati.org, which makes me uncomfortable.

Drupal 8 runs fine though. Which means... ugh, I don't even want to say it. I may have to migrate the site from D7 to D8.

More Site Problems -- the Dangers of Novice Site Administrators

Submitted by C B Wright on

For the record, I am the novice site administrator.

I use SliceHost as my website provider. I really like their service, but one of the downsides is that they don't really provide any site administration tools. In other words, when you lease a slice from them they give you an operating system, and you have to install everything else on your own.

For a guy who had never done anything like that before, I think I did pretty well. Still, there are bumps in the road.

Items of Note

1. The previous/next links have returned for comics appearing on the front page. I had attempted to alter the way comics are displayed on the front page in order to remove the comic transcription stuff (so the comic transcript text and tools would only appear on individual comic pages, not on the front page itself) but at the moment it's not possible to exclude the transcription tools on the front page without nuking the page links as well.

Kernel Panic, OSW now appearing on front page

Submitted by C B Wright on

I've modified the site so that when a new Kernel Panic or Old Skool Webcomic is published, it will now display on the front page of the site for that day, and then disappear back into the depths of the archives. This should make it easier for fans of those comics to notice when they've updated.

In THEORY, what will happen is this: when a Kernel Panic or Old Skool Webcomic is published, it will appear on the front page for 24 hours, then disappear until the next udpate. That's the way it's supposed to work. We'll see.
