... You can download podcasts now....

Submitted by C B Wright on

So it was pointed out to me today that it wasn't possible to actually download any of the mp3's of the podcasts I've been posting to this site. I was confused by this, because any time I'd look at a page where a podcast was posted I'd see a download link under the player.

It was a permissions problem. I didn't realize it was a permissions problem because I have an admin account, and of course administrators can see everything. The permissions are now set correctly, so y'all should be able to download any and all podcasts posted on this site.

Sorry about that! Fixed now.

heh...

Rookie developer mistake.
If you had a crack QA man on the job, these kind of things wouldn't happen.

It's a real shame...

... I don't know any of those.

:-D

*ducks*

Hmmm....

I'm sure there's a petard around here somewhere.

User account vs. admin account.

What you need is a user account in addition to your admin account. Do you usually log in to your computer as "root"? Sure, if you have the root password, you can.

Well I have one...

... but when I'm creating content I don't use it, because I need my admin account to create content. Generally I try to browse anonymously after I set something up (most visitors don't make an account, and the ones who do don't always log in) but obviously I didn't when I set this feature up, which was a big fail on my part.

Admin 101.

Rule #1 : After the "fix" do a complete power down and restart. Does it still work?
Rule #2 : When testing Rule #1 make sure you use a typical "user" account. My old one was "Juan Valdez", a picker with a mule.
