Oh No, Not Again - It Might Be Time to Migrate to Drupal 8

Submitted by C B Wright on

Short version: after finally updating all my Linux machines to the latest version of Ubuntu/KDE, I can no longer run my Drupal 7 test environments. This means I can no longer test any changes to Eviscerati.org, which makes me uncomfortable.

Drupal 8 runs fine though. Which means... ugh, I don't even want to say it. I may have to migrate the site from D7 to D8.

Another Personal Update on the Ongoing War Against Entropy

Submitted by C B Wright on

Good news! I no longer have to drive 176 miles round-trip when I commute. Last weekend I moved into our new apartment in glorious Phenix City, Alabama, just 13 minutes away from where I work in Columbus, Georgia.

Bad news! We're not quite moved in yet. I'm essentially camping out in the apartment because none of our big furniture (including things like, oh, beds) are there yet. It's still better than driving 176 miles a day.

Good news! This weekend we're renting a U-Haul and moving all the big furniture!

Flawless Victory!

We got moved out of the house, on time, with most of our sanity intact. Whether we get our security deposit back remains to be seen - a college friend of mine was fond of saying "the security deposit is just the fee you pay for the privilege of losing your security deposit" - but we're out, in our temporary habitat, and all our stuff currently resides in 300 square feet of storage.

Next: figure out how much taxes are going to hurt.

Next after that: find new digs.

I'm still here, I promise

This week I am trying to finish moving all our stuff out of our old house before our lease expires. It's going to be quite the race. This weekend I managed to get impressively sick, apparently as a result of drinking a cup of day-old coffee. This week will be hectic and expensive and I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Site Maintenance Tomorrow (Update: Complete)

Submitted by C B Wright on

UPDATE: Looks like we made it through!

Unless I have my dates hopelessly mixed up, eviscerati.org will go offline at some point tomorrow as prgmr.com does some important infrastructure engineering. Assuming everything goes well, the site will come back up on its own, but "everything goes well" requires that I have everything configured properly on my end, so roll d100.

If everything does NOT go well I won't be able to do anything about it till tomorrow night at the earliest, and really probably not till the weekend. So let's hope I have configured everything properly!

Curveball Issue 24 Pushed Back to June

Submitted by C B Wright on

... well obviously it has, because it's June. Still, a brief explanation is in order.

Issue 24 is a double-sized issue (about 16,000 words instead of the standard 8-10K) so there's more to write. On top of that, I've been putting longer hours in at work because we're testing a new release, so I have less actual time to write. This has made my hope of getting the issue out on time a bit unrealistic.

I hope that it will be out this week. I am positive it will be out this month.

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your patience. Assuming you are, in fact, patient, and not simply apathetic. :-D
