JACK: You’ve got to get out of here. You’re freaking me out.

BINKY: But I need a job!

JACK: So? This is a Linux shop!

BINKY: I can do Linux!

JACK: You’re the Ubersoft Paperclip! There’s no room in the Linux world for the Ubersoft Paperclip!

ALAN: Actually, we DO have Vigor —

JACK: You keep out of this.

For those of you who don’t know…

…the Linux world does in fact have its own version of the Microsoft Paperclip.

At the start of the year 2000 Illiad (JD Frazier, creator of User Friendly had one of his characters create “Vigor,” a “Paperclip Buddy” for vi.

vi, for those of you who don’t know, is one of the two Great Text Editing Environments available for Unixscape. The other is Emacs, and vi and Emacs afficionados have been battling over which is the best text editor ever invented since the dawn of internet time.

Based on this comic, Joel Holveck, a man with evil in his heart and far too much time on his hands, actually went and created Vigor for real.

Brilliant, I say. Flat-out brilliant.
