FED: Morning, Mark. How’s it going so far?
MARK: I’m going through your “three hops of surveillance” data. That’s hte one where you collect data on people with up to three degrees of separation from your original target.
FED: We try to be thorough. What’s the problem?
MARK: Well I’m just skimming, but there are an awful lot of hits on Kevin Bacon.
FED: Bacon… we’ve had our eye on him for a long, long time.
MARK: You’re joking, right? I mean, that’s just a stupid Internet game.
FED: It looks like a stupid Internet game. It’s actually a way for us to offload some processing cycles to an unsuspecting public.
MARK: Wait. you guys created the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game as a way to get the public to map out all his professional relationships for you?
FED: Internet memes are one of the most effective intelligence gathering tools we have.
MARK: Memes? You mean you created more than one?
FED: Mark. We created all of them.
MARK (Thinking): Rickrolled by the Surveillance-Industrial Complex.
