Unintended Consequences

Comic Transcript

BOSS: What is the news?

ALICE: Nothing good.

ALICE: With Viktor busy suing himself, we’re in a bit of a bind. Over the years we’ve switched from a software and hardware-centric model of doing business to a litigation-centric model of doing business — we use our license agreements and patents and intellectual property to drive our business forward. It’s netted us billions in profits, but Viktor was the mastermind behind it all. With him tied up in court, none of the lawyers know what to do next, and it’s trickling down into the rest of the company.

ALICE: We can’t talk about new products unless Viktor frames the language in a way that won’t get us sued. We can’t talk about software problems unless Viktor frames the language in a way that won’t get us sued. Basically, anything we do has the potential to get us sued, and without Viktor here we don’t know what’s safe.

BOSS: I was hoping to hear “everything is going exactly according to plan.”

ALICE: If your plan involves crippling Ubersoft that can still be true.
