ALEX: Sir, there’s a very simple reason why we don’t create reliable software from the get-go.

CUSTOMER: Why do I somehow doubt that?

ALEX: America thrives because our industry thrives. Programmers are in high demand; we can’t hire them fast enough. There’s always lots of bad, poorly-designed code out there. Because of this our economy grew, unemployment shrank, inflation dwindled, and the standard of living rose.

ALEX: Lousy software helps America grow!

CUSTOMER: Smells like fertilizer to me.
