An Unusual Motion

Webcomic Storyline:

Help Desk, by Christopher B. Wright

Comic Transcript:

SAMSUNG LAWYER: Moving on, Your Honor, we would like to introduce new evidence to the court. Evidence that will prove that Samsung was considering designs that were similar to our current designs months before Apple ever revealed their products to the public.

BINKY (STEVE): We object, Your Honor. Strenuously.

SAMSUNG LAWYER: What is it this time?

BINKY (STEVE): The evidence might prejudice the jury against our case.

JUDGE: Hmmm. You have a point.

SAMSUNG LAWYER: What? No he doesn't? Evidence is supposed to influence the jury! That's what evidence is for!

BINKY (STEVE): Your Honor, we think Samsung should be forced to withdraw ALL its evidence for pretty much the same reason.

Alas, they did sue...

Or rather, they put out a DMCA takedown. The funny thing is, the Great Bird of the Galaxy had previously said that the name "tricorder" was openly available for any similar technology to use, but CBS (which now owns Paramount via the Viacom merger) took offense to the app copying the TNG LCARS UI. A shame; it was a great app.

Try again

Actually, there's the handheld portable screens used in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick actually hired a bunch of design firms to create the look and feel of the movie....
