ALEX: Ubersoft Technical Support, Alex speaking. How can I help you today?
EUGENE KASPERSKY: Yes, this is Eugene Kaspersky of Kaspersky Labs.
ALEX: Uh… hello. How can I help you?
EUGENE KASPERKY: I’m calling to tel you about a new piece of malware we’ve found infecting machines running all versions of Nifty Doorways.
ALEX: Great.
EUGENE KASPERSKY: It uses a security exploit we reported a year and a half ago. Once it infects a machine, it stores keystrokes, passwords, maps out the entire hard drive, and begins transmitting information to a number of servers in the Ukraine.
EUGENE KASPERSKY: In order to perform all these extra activities without being detected, it performs a series of optimizations on the infected machine–registry optimizations, disk optimizations, memory management optimizations–that has the side effect of vastly improving the stability and speed of the infected machine.
(Silence.)
ALEX: So I guess you want us to close this security exploit.
EUGENE KASPERSKY: Well it’s hard to say.
