The Forbidden Word

Webcomic Storyline:

Help Desk, by Christopher B. Wright

Comic Transcript:

THE BOSS: Beset!

ALEX: Pardon?

THE BOSS: Beset! On all sides! Enemies getting favorable press! Apple, Linux on the rise! Google ascendant! And worst of all, people have stopped buying everything but the most basic necessities! It is intolerable!

ALEX: Well there is a recess--

THE BOSS: If you say "recession" I will rip your soul from your body and feed it to my children.

(Silence.)

THE BOSS: Well?

ALEX: I have work to do.

"You have children?" would

"You have children?" would have worked too :-)

Soul

"I think if we listen carefully we can hear the demons casting lots for the tattered, grubby remains of your soul." Schlock Mercenary 4/15/2001 http://www.schlockmercenary.com/d/20010415.html

I almost went with that one...

It was a tossup between "you have children?" and "I have work to do." In the end I decided the joke was about the threat rather than the revelation...

I think "I have work to do"

I think "I have work to do" works better as regards to the children anyway. It seems like it would be one of those situations where you don't want to know, don't want to be forced into knowing, and just get away as fast as possible.
