ALEX: So because your customers, using your flat-fee cable modem service, are buying things on our web site, you feel entitled to some of our revenue?
AT&T: That's right.
ALEX: How exactly does that work?
AT&T: Well, as the carrier of a business transaction, we're charging for the service of enabling that transaction. Without us those customers wouldn't have made the sale -- so we demand a cut.
ALEX: I don't think it's going to work.
AT&T: But we're the phone company! We can do anything we want!
