The Death and Rebirth of The Points Between

Submitted by C B Wright on

Once upon a time I was happily writing a serial called The Points Between. It was a story I was incredibly passionate about telling -- a story that was viscerally important to me, even though it was way out of my comfort zone and far, far above my level of expertise -- and I'd actually finished an entire arc, and had started on the second arc, when a bunch of inconvenient things happened. The result of these inconvenient things was that the story has remained dormant for years: not dead, because it's never a story I've given up on, but dormant. I needed to make some decisions, and I didn't know what decisions I wanted to make.

I've made those decisions, and am in the process of moving forward. This is the story of that interminable process, and what came out of it.

The Points Between is, in my head, a story with three arcs. The first arc, where Matthew discovered he was a magician, was finished. The second arc, where he had to discover what that meant, was getting started. The third arc, where he had to choose how to use what he knew, was being set up. I was generally pleased with most of what I'd written, but there were a few things I'd done that had bothered me:

An Apology to Self-Publishers: #HaleNo, #bloggerblackout, and Sloppy Comparisons

About a week ago an author named Kathleen Hale wrote an article in the Guardian about how she reacted to a bad review by an anonymous book reviewer by trying to track down the reviewer in real life. It was stalking, plain and simple: there’s no other way to describe it, and there’s no reason it should be described any other way.

Pen and Cape Society: The Super Choice Adventure Comes to an End

So the Pen and Cape Society website has posted the fourteenth and final chapter of the Super Choice Adventure. Jim Zoetewey, author of The Legion of Nothing, closes it out quite nicely I think.

It was fun to play with the other authors. I hope it was a fun read. If you're visiting for the first time because of it, welcome! Pull up a chair, page through the fiction, feel free to correct my grammar and spelling. :D

Pen and Cape Society: Super Choice Adventure, Chapter 11

The Pen and Cape Society has just released the eleventh chapter of the Super Choice Adventure, a group fiction project where you, the reader, gets to vote who writes the next chapter.

Chapter 11 was my turn, and things got a little out of hand.

By "a little out of hand" I mean "the average chapter has been around 1400-1500 words and my initial draft came in at 3600 FREAKING WORDS so I pared it down to 2750 FREAKING WORDS which is still too much but I ran out of time so there it is."

Anyway: The Super Choice Adventure Page, for those of you who are curious but who haven't been following it. And Chapter 11, my ridiculously overgrown contribution, for your consideration and enjoyment.

Pen and Cape Society: Super Choice Adventure Chapter 2

The next chapter of the Pen and Cape Society's Super Choice Adventure is up. This chapter is written by R.J. Ross, author of the Cape High books. I discuss her stories a little on this site in Introducting the Pen and Cape Society.

This installment gives you the chance to vote me in as the next author up to bat. Read through the latest installment and choose which power you want Willow to use next. If you choose "fire manipulation" then I'll need to figure out exactly how the the heck I'm going to work fire manipulation into the storyline. If you're not interested in fire manipulation, that's OK. I'll get my turn eventually.
