CSS Experts, I Need Your Help

Submitted by C B Wright on

I know it LOOKS like nothing is going on over here... and in terms of providing entertainment to you all that's 100% true. NaNoWriMo and real life things have consumed my mind of late, leaving you all out in the cold.

Sorry about that.

But behind the scenes, things are happening. And there's one thing that's happening where those of you with experience in tweaking Cascading Style Sheets could really help out.

Notice the middle column on this page? The black one, with the PayPal link, comic thumbnails, etc? It's supposed to be 120 pixels wide, and it's actually about 157, 160 pixels... I can't figure out why. There's obviously something else on the page that is pushing it out -- either one of the elements in the column, or it's inheriting a value from something somewhere else -- but I can't find it.

Can you? If any of you can figure out what's pushing out the width, please post here. I'm positive it's something ridiculously stupid that I've carelessly overlooked...

Update: And... it's fixed. So simple. So very simple...

The paypal image is 147px

The paypal image is 147px wide. That's your first issue.
Second, there seems to be some sort of padding. 120px + padding > 120px so it will be wider than what you expect.

D'oh!

They changed the PayPal image width on me. The jerks!

The padding stuff is easier to figure out. I noticed that, but the extra padding didn't add up to what Chrome was reporting as the column width.

Thanks!

Yes...

... it was the PayPal graphic. Thanks so much!

Completely unrelated: Site go boom????

Chris,
I came to the site this morning (didn't stop by yesterday) and saw 4 comments listed on the Christmas lights comic. I clicked on the link to read them, and got "You are not allowed to access this page." Now, the comic on the Home page is "A Badly Kept Secret," from early in the Steve Jobs' Ego storyline, and there is no link to comment on the comic at all. Whassup?

(Sorry I put this here, but I don't see any more-immediate way of reaching you, and Email is not an option for me right now.)

Can you check again?

It looks fine to me... not sure why it's doing that.
